What to Expect from a Buffalo Drill Press
If you're a serious woodworker, then you may be wise to purchase a Buffalo drill press for your shop. For those not in the know, a drill press is used for drilling holes but differs from a regular drill in that it is not handheld and not portable. You should choose a drill press over a handheld drill when the job calls for exact precision. This machine consists of various components which work together to produce the end result.
For example, the base first supports a column. Then, the column serves as support for a table. A vise or clamps can be used to secure wood to the table for drilling. If you are working on something tall, the table can actually be moved out of the way and the wood item can be secured to the base itself. The table's height can be adjusted and locked using a lift crank. On the column, in addition to the table, is the motor. The motor is what propels the spindle and can be adjusted using a dial that controls the speed. The drill chuck on the spindle is where the drill bits and other cutting tools go. Some people choose to use a center finder to set the spindle on a drill press. The center finder helps ensure maximum accuracy.
Drill press machines range in price from cheap to expensive. For example, a small Delta brand press can often be had for several hundred dollars. However, the Buffalo brand press will cost substantially more and is most often sold for well over $1000. The Buffalo is often considered a vintage press which may account for its high price. Plus, this machine is an industrial sized powerhouse with anywhere from five to sixteen different speeds.
You might have some trouble locating one of these machines for sale. Rather than being able to buy one from your local hardware store, you may have to get online and shop. You can sometimes find this brand of drill press for sale on Ebay or even on classified ad sites like Craigslist.
When you purchase a Buffalo drill press, you get a rugged and durable machine with a long history of powerful performance. It will definitely be enough to meet all your precision drilling needs and will last a long time. This makes it worth the high price for many serious woodworkers who need a no-nonsense machine that can do the job right.
